Buying Guide

Front Bend or Side Bend — Get This Right Before You Order

The bend direction determines what shapes your profile can make. It's the most common purchase mistake — and once you know which one you need, the choice is instant.

CEILING / WALL SURFACE Spans in one plane — bends toward viewer forward FRONT BEND (TOP BEND)

The profile is flat against the mounting surface. It arches outward toward the viewer — ideal for coves, wall outlines, and ceiling edges where the curve runs along one plane.

Front Bend · Top Bend
Bends in Vertical plane — arches forward/backward
Min. bend radius ~50mm (tight arch possible)
Light direction Face of profile — outward from wall
Profile cross-section Wider than tall (e.g. 16×8mm)

Best applications

  • Cove ceiling lighting

Front bend runs along the cove perimeter — the arch follows the ceiling edge in one plane

  • Wall outline / panel framing

Run along the perimeter of a feature wall panel — front bend stays flat against the surface

  • Staircase edge per step

Mount on each step riser — front bend profile arches along the step edge horizontally

  • Mirror / headboard frame

Wrap the rectangular frame of a mirror or headboard — front bend stays flat on each straight run

Not sure which to choose? Answer 2 questions.

Q1. What shape are you trying to create?

Q2. Will the profile be viewed face-on (like a sign on a wall) or from an angle (like a cove above you)?

Feature ★ Chronos Silicone Neon Profile Generic / PVC Neon Aluminium LED Profile
Material Premium extruded silicone — UV stable, heat-resistant PVC or low-grade rubber — yellows and cracks over time Aluminium extrusion + separate milky diffuser cover
Glow quality Continuous even glow — zero visible dots or hotspots Often shows dots or colour banding on close inspection Indirect glow through diffuser — not the profile itself
Flexibility Bends to ~50mm radius — curves, arches, letter forms Variable — some crack at tight bends Rigid — straight runs only, 45° cuts for corners
Voltage 24V DC — safe for DIY and contractor install 12V or 24V — check each product 12V or 24V depending on strip inside
IP Rating IP65 standard · IP67 on large outdoor profiles IP65 claimed — verify with actual test certificate IP20 unless specified — diffuser cover is not sealed
Cut interval Every 25–50mm — site-cut to exact length Variable — some fixed length, some cuttable Cut aluminium to length; strip inside cuts separately
CRI CRI 90+ on all warm/neutral/cool white variants CRI 70–80 typical on budget product Depends on strip inside — not inherent to the profile
Certifications CE · RoHS · IP65/67 test certificates available Often none — or unverifiable CE mark CE on aluminium body; strip certification separate
Lifespan 50,000+ hours — silicone does not degrade under heat PVC yellows from heat within 2–3 years Aluminium body long-lasting; diffuser may yellow
Warranty 2 years with Chronos after-sales support Usually none or 3–6 months Varies — typically 1 year on the strip
Best for Visible installations — signage, coves, edges, frames Low-budget projects where quality is secondary Hidden/recessed lighting — coves where strip is not seen
The Chronos difference: Every Chronos silicone neon profile is made from UV-stable silicone — not PVC. Silicone does not yellow, crack, or harden under heat, meaning the profile looks the same on day 1,800 as it did on day 1. CE and IP65 test certificates are available on request for every product.

Applications

Where Silicone Neon Profile Is Used — And Exactly How

Six real-world applications with the exact size, bend direction, and colour temperature that works for each one.

Cove Ceiling Lighting
Size 8×16mm or 10×20mm
Bend Front bend
Colour 2700K–3000K warm white
IP IP20 (indoor)

The defining application for front-bend neon profile. Run the strip along the cove perimeter — it sits flat against the ceiling and arches outward, filling the room with even ambient glow. Most popular in bedrooms, living rooms, and hotel suites.

Pro tip Run the profile 100–150mm back from the cove edge so the strip is hidden — only the glow on the ceiling is visible.
Staircase Edge Lighting
Size 6×12mm or 8×16mm
Bend Front bend
Colour 3000K–4000K neutral white
IP IP65 (high foot traffic)

Mount one profile per step on the riser or tread edge. Front-bend profile runs the full width of each step — the glow marks the edge safely and adds dramatic effect. Especially impactful on dark oak or marble staircases.

Pro tip Use a recessed aluminium channel under the tread nosing to protect the profile and give a cleaner finish.
Custom Lettering & Signage
Size 12×24mm or 15×26mm
Bend Side bend
Colour RGB or any single colour
IP IP65

Side-bend profile curves into letterforms, logos, and brand words. This is the core use case for neon profile — replacing the glass neon signs of the past with a safer, more flexible, cuttable solution that works at 24V.

Pro tip For tight letter curves (e.g. 'S', 'G', 'O'), use the 12×24mm size — it has the smallest minimum bend radius in the range.
Architectural Facade Lighting
Size 18×26mm or 20×20mm
Bend Front or side bend
Colour 6500K cool white or RGB
IP IP67 (outdoor)

Outline a building's horizontal floor bands, vertical edges, or full perimeter with large-format IP67 profiles. The scale demands 18×26mm or 20×20mm profiles — visible from 30m+ and rated for continuous outdoor exposure.

Pro tip For facades, use 24V runs with injection points every 5m to maintain even brightness across long lengths.
Furniture & Display Lighting
Size 4×10mm or 6×12mm
Bend Front bend
Colour 3000K warm white or 4000K neutral
IP IP20 (indoor furniture)

Under-shelf and furniture-edge lighting with the slim 4×10mm or 6×12mm profiles. Small enough to disappear inside a furniture groove or mount under a shelf lip — large enough to wash the shelf contents in even light.

Pro tip Pair with a 24V dimmable driver — dimming down to 10% warmth turns display furniture into an ambient night light.
Mirror & Frame Lighting
Size 6×12mm or 8×16mm
Bend Front bend
Colour 4000K natural white (makeup/grooming)
IP IP65 (bathroom mirror)

Wrap the perimeter of a bathroom mirror, bedroom vanity, or artwork frame with 6×12mm or 8×16mm profile. Front-bend runs each straight edge; corners are handled with flexible connector joints or gentle heat bends.

Pro tip 4000K natural white gives the most accurate colour rendering for bathroom mirrors — avoid warm white which flatters but distorts makeup tones.

What Is Silicone Neon Profile — And Why Does It Look Different?

Most visitors confuse it with regular LED strip, glass neon, or aluminium profile. It's none of those. Here's exactly what it is, what it does, and when to use it.

Regular LED Strip

  • Visible LED dots — looks cheap after install
  • Uneven brightness — hot spots at each LED
  • Fragile — adhesive fails, strip sags
  • Not suitable for curves or letters
  • No diffusion — glare in direct sight lines
  • Must hide inside channels or behind diffusers

Silicone Neon Profile

  • Continuous even glow — silicone diffuses every LED
  • Zero hotspots — light looks like one solid bar
  • Robust silicone body — stands up to installation stress
  • Bends in front or side direction — curves, arcs, letters
  • Built-in diffusion — the profile IS the finish
  • Exposed installation is the design intent
When to choose neon profile over strip: Any time the light source is visible — cove edges, wall outlines, signage, furniture edges. Strip stays hidden; neon profile IS the feature.

How silicone neon profile works

LED Strip Inside

A high-density LED strip runs inside the silicone channel — SMD LEDs spaced every 10–16mm.

Silicone Diffuses Everything

The extruded silicone body scatters and blends each LED's output — you see a single continuous bar of light, not individual dots.

Bends to Any Shape

Silicone is inherently flexible — front-bend profiles arch forward, side-bend profiles curve left/right. Minimum bend radius: ~50mm.
