The defining application for front-bend neon profile. Run the strip along the cove perimeter — it sits flat against the ceiling and arches outward, filling the room with even ambient glow. Most popular in bedrooms, living rooms, and hotel suites.
Buying Guide
Front Bend or Side Bend — Get This Right Before You Order
The bend direction determines what shapes your profile can make. It's the most common purchase mistake — and once you know which one you need, the choice is instant.
The profile is flat against the mounting surface. It arches outward toward the viewer — ideal for coves, wall outlines, and ceiling edges where the curve runs along one plane.
Best applications
-
Cove ceiling lighting
Front bend runs along the cove perimeter — the arch follows the ceiling edge in one plane
-
Wall outline / panel framing
Run along the perimeter of a feature wall panel — front bend stays flat against the surface
-
Staircase edge per step
Mount on each step riser — front bend profile arches along the step edge horizontally
-
Mirror / headboard frame
Wrap the rectangular frame of a mirror or headboard — front bend stays flat on each straight run
The profile curves left and right in the horizontal plane — ideal for letters, signage, logos, column wraps, and any shape where the curve happens parallel to the mounting surface viewed from above.
Best applications
-
Custom lettering & signage
Side bend curves into letters, logos, and brand names — the core use case for neon signs
-
Column & pillar wrapping
Spiral or full wrap around a cylindrical column — side bend follows the curve smoothly
-
Arched doorway / window frames
Follow the arch of a doorway or window — side bend traces the curve viewed face-on
-
Wave / organic wall art
Free-form S-curves and wave patterns on feature walls — side bend makes complex shapes possible
Not sure which to choose? Answer 2 questions.
Q1. What shape are you trying to create?
Q2. Will the profile be viewed face-on (like a sign on a wall) or from an angle (like a cove above you)?

Applications
Where Silicone Neon Profile Is Used — And Exactly How
Six real-world applications with the exact size, bend direction, and colour temperature that works for each one.
Mount one profile per step on the riser or tread edge. Front-bend profile runs the full width of each step — the glow marks the edge safely and adds dramatic effect. Especially impactful on dark oak or marble staircases.
Side-bend profile curves into letterforms, logos, and brand words. This is the core use case for neon profile — replacing the glass neon signs of the past with a safer, more flexible, cuttable solution that works at 24V.
Outline a building's horizontal floor bands, vertical edges, or full perimeter with large-format IP67 profiles. The scale demands 18×26mm or 20×20mm profiles — visible from 30m+ and rated for continuous outdoor exposure.
Under-shelf and furniture-edge lighting with the slim 4×10mm or 6×12mm profiles. Small enough to disappear inside a furniture groove or mount under a shelf lip — large enough to wash the shelf contents in even light.
Wrap the perimeter of a bathroom mirror, bedroom vanity, or artwork frame with 6×12mm or 8×16mm profile. Front-bend runs each straight edge; corners are handled with flexible connector joints or gentle heat bends.

Questions About Silicone Neon Profile — Answered
Search below or filter by topic. If your question isn't here, ask us on WhatsApp.
Front bend (also called top bend) arches the profile forward and backward — it bends in the vertical plane. Use it for cove ceilings, wall outlines, staircase edges, and mirror frames where the curve runs along one flat surface.
Side bend curves the profile left and right — it bends in the horizontal plane. Use it for letters, logos, signage, arched doorways, column wraps, and any shape where the curve is traced from above.
Getting this wrong means the profile physically cannot follow your intended shape. When in doubt, send us a sketch on WhatsApp.
No — the 24V driver is not included and must be purchased separately. The profile is sold as 5m rolls only. You need a 24V DC driver sized to your total strip load plus 25% headroom.
Use the Power Calculator on this page to find the correct driver size for your profile and run length. Chronos 24V drivers are available separately in sizes from 40W to 400W.
The formula is: (Watts per metre × Total length) × 1.25
The 1.25 factor is a 25% safety headroom — running a driver at 100% load continuously shortens its lifespan significantly.
Example: 8×16mm profile at 10W/m, 8m run = 80W × 1.25 = 100W driver minimum.
Use the interactive Power Calculator on this page — select your profile size and drag the length slider to get an instant recommendation.
Yes — every profile can be cut to length at the marked cut points only. Cut points are printed on the profile every 25mm (smaller sizes) or 50mm (larger sizes).
Use sharp scissors or a flush-cut tool for a clean edge. Never cut between the marked points — it will sever the LED circuit and that section will not light.
After cutting, seal the open end with an end cap to maintain the IP65 rating.
Maximum run length varies by profile size — smaller profiles can run up to 10m from one power input, while larger profiles (18×26mm, 20×20mm) should not exceed 5m per injection point due to higher current draw.
If your total run is longer than the maximum, you need power injection points — additional driver connections mid-run. The Power Calculator on this page tells you exactly how many injection points you need based on your profile size and run length.
Use a joining connector designed for your specific profile size — the connector slides onto the cut ends of both rolls and provides both a mechanical joint and an electrical connection.
Important: ensure both rolls are cut clean at their respective cut marks before joining. If the total combined length exceeds the maximum single run, you will also need a mid-run driver injection at the join point.
Profile joining connectors are available in our connectors collection.
Yes — all Chronos silicone neon profiles are rated IP65 as standard, which means they are dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction. IP65 is suitable for covered outdoor locations: under eaves, on covered balconies, outdoor signage sheltered from direct rain.
For fully exposed outdoor installations — building facades, uncovered outdoor signage, locations where the profile faces direct rain — use the IP67-rated 18×26mm or 20×20mm profiles, which are rated for temporary immersion.
Do not use IP20-rated profile outdoors under any circumstances.
Yes, with the right IP rating for your zone:
- Mirror frame and vanity counter (Zone 2 — more than 60cm from water source): IP65 is sufficient
- Near the shower or bath (Zone 1): IP65 minimum; IP67 strongly recommended
- Inside the shower enclosure (Zone 0): Do not install LED profile inside the shower — this is not safe at any IP rating for a DIY installation
All Chronos silicone neon profiles are IP65 rated. Use IP67 profiles near the shower.
All Chronos silicone neon profiles are available in:
- 2700K — Warm white (amber-toned, bedroom and hospitality ambience)
- 3000K — Soft warm white (most popular for living spaces)
- 4000K — Natural white (kitchen, bathroom, retail)
- 6500K — Cool daylight (outdoor signage, commercial facades)
- RGB — Full colour changing with compatible controller
CRI is 90+ on all white variants, verified per production batch.
For most residential cove ceilings, 8×16mm is the most popular choice — it produces a visible glow without overpowering a room and has a good minimum bend radius for corner transitions.
If your cove is large (ceiling height 3m+, room larger than 25sqm) or you want a bolder effect visible from across the room, step up to 10×20mm.
For a subtle accent effect in a small room or low ceiling, 6×12mm is sufficient.
Yes — and it becomes more obvious over time. Silicone is UV-stable and heat-resistant: it does not yellow, crack, or harden, so the glow colour remains consistent year after year.
PVC neon profile (sold cheaply as a substitute) yellows from heat within 1–3 years. The yellow tint gradually distorts warm white into an orange-tinged glow and cool white into a greenish cast. The PVC also becomes brittle and may crack at bend points.
Chronos profiles are extruded silicone — not PVC — and carry a 2-year warranty.
Yes — all Chronos silicone neon profiles are dimmable when used with a compatible 24V dimmable driver and a dimmer controller (touch, rotary, or smart WiFi).
The profile itself has no dimming circuitry — dimming is handled entirely by the driver and controller. Pair with a trailing-edge or 0–10V dimmable driver for smoothest performance. Leading-edge (TRIAC) dimmers may cause flicker at low brightness levels.
Minimum bend radius varies by profile size and bend direction:
- 4×10mm: ~40mm
- 6×12mm: ~45mm
- 8×16mm: ~50mm
- 10×20mm and above: 55–90mm (larger profiles need a wider turning radius)
Forcing a tighter bend than the minimum will cause the silicone to kink and may crack the internal LED circuit. For very tight letter forms (e.g. a small 'O' or 'S'), use the smallest available profile and plan your letter dimensions around the bend radius.

What Is Silicone Neon Profile — And Why Does It Look Different?
Most visitors confuse it with regular LED strip, glass neon, or aluminium profile. It's none of those. Here's exactly what it is, what it does, and when to use it.
Regular LED Strip
- Visible LED dots — looks cheap after install
- Uneven brightness — hot spots at each LED
- Fragile — adhesive fails, strip sags
- Not suitable for curves or letters
- No diffusion — glare in direct sight lines
- Must hide inside channels or behind diffusers
Silicone Neon Profile
- Continuous even glow — silicone diffuses every LED
- Zero hotspots — light looks like one solid bar
- Robust silicone body — stands up to installation stress
- Bends in front or side direction — curves, arcs, letters
- Built-in diffusion — the profile IS the finish
- Exposed installation is the design intent
Glass Neon
- High voltage (3,000–15,000V) — genuine safety risk
- Contains mercury — toxic disposal required
- Fragile glass tubes — breaks in transport and install
- Heavy — requires special mounting hardware
- Custom-made only — minimum order, long lead time
- Cannot be cut on site — fixed length per piece
- High running cost — inefficient power conversion
Silicone Neon Profile
- 24V DC — safe for DIY and contractor install
- Zero mercury — RoHS compliant, safe disposal
- Flexible silicone — survives handling and bending
- Lightweight — clips, channels, or adhesive mount
- Available as 5m rolls — cut to any length on site
- Cut at marked intervals — exact fit every time
- LED efficiency — 80–90% less power than glass neon
Aluminium + Diffuser Profile
- Metal channel hides the strip — subtle, recessed look
- Milky diffuser softens the glow through a cover panel
- Rigid — cannot curve or bend
- Light is projected upward/downward (indirect)
- Best for: hidden cove, under-shelf, step nosing
- Requires separate diffuser cover — two-part install
Silicone Neon Profile
- Silicone body IS visible — neon look is the point
- Glow is lateral (from the profile face) — different effect
- Flexible — curves, corners, and complex shapes
- Light glows from within the profile body
- Best for: signage, feature walls, furniture edges, arches
- Single piece — no separate cover needed
How silicone neon profile works
LED Strip Inside
A high-density LED strip runs inside the silicone channel — SMD LEDs spaced every 10–16mm.
Silicone Diffuses Everything
The extruded silicone body scatters and blends each LED's output — you see a single continuous bar of light, not individual dots.
Bends to Any Shape
Silicone is inherently flexible — front-bend profiles arch forward, side-bend profiles curve left/right. Minimum bend radius: ~50mm.

What Size Driver Do You Need? Calculate It Here.
Select your profile size and total run length — get the exact driver wattage, number of drivers, and injection points required. The 24V driver is not included with the profile and must be purchased separately.
Select your profile size
Total run length
- Strip load = Watts per metre × Total length
- Safety headroom = Strip load × 1.25 (25% buffer — prevents driver running at 100% continuously)
- Driver count = Ceiling of (Strip load ÷ chosen driver size)
- Injection points = Required when a single run exceeds the profile's maximum run length
All Chronos silicone neon profiles run on 24V DC. Never use a 12V driver — it will underpower the LEDs and cause uneven brightness.

Room Guide
Which Room Is It For? See the Right Setup at a Glance.
Pick your room and get the exact size, bend direction, colour temperature, and IP rating that works — no guessing.
Bedroom
Warm white cove lighting transforms a bedroom from a plain ceiling into a retreat. Layer a ceiling cove with an under-headboard strip — both on the same dimmable driver — for full ambient control from day to night.
Where to install in this room
- Ceiling cove perimeter — front bend, full room edge
- Under the headboard — accent strip facing the bed
- Wardrobe interior — slim 4×10mm for clothes illumination
Products for this room
Living Room
The living room takes two distinct neon profile applications: a warm-white ceiling cove for ambient fill, and a cool or RGB TV backlight for screen entertainment mode. Both can run on separate dimmable circuits.
Where to install in this room
- Ceiling cove — warm white front bend, full perimeter
- TV unit backlight — cool white or RGB, 6×12mm profile
- Feature wall / media unit edge — outline the furniture
Products for this room
Kitchen
Under-cabinet lighting is where neon profile shines in a kitchen — the even glow eliminates prep shadows completely. Natural white (4000K) gives the most accurate colour for food prep without the yellow warmth of 2700K.
Where to install in this room
- Under upper cabinets — the primary task lighting location
- Inside glass-front cabinets — display lighting for crockery
- Toe kick / plinth — indirect floor-level ambient glow
Products for this room
Bathroom
Bathroom mirror framing and vanity edge lighting — both demand IP65 as a minimum. Natural white (4000K) around a mirror gives the most accurate light for grooming. Avoid warm white which distorts skin tones under make-up.
Where to install in this room
- Mirror perimeter frame — all four edges, front bend
- Vanity counter edge — slim profile along the counter front
- Shower niche — IP67 only, side bend to follow the niche shape
Products for this room
Commercial
Bars, restaurants, retail counters, and reception areas use larger profiles and often RGB for scene-setting. Counter front neon is the signature commercial application — it runs the full bar or reception length and becomes the space's defining visual element.
Where to install in this room
- Bar or reception counter front — large profile, full length
- Retail shelving — under-shelf neon for product illumination
- Entrance signage or logo — side bend lettering
